THE BEGINNING

The Castello di Cigognola company stands among the hills of the Oltrepò Pavese, brembraced by Piedmont and Emilia, in what was once known , until the Unification of Italy, as “Old Piedmont”.
It springs from the intuition of the proprietors, Gian Marco and Letizia Moratti, who, together with the oenologist Riccardo Cotarella and a team of experts gambled on a particularly favourable terroir. Significant investments in vines and the cellars transformed the ancient castle into a point of reference for excellence.
And so, high recognition soon arrived from the most prestigious Italian wine guides.



OBJECTIVES

The Castello di Cigognola company mission is to create excellence in the Oltrepò Pavese. The pedological, territorial and climatic characteristics of the zone, which meld perfectly with valorisation of the organoleptic qualities of Barbera, Pinot Noir, and Nebbiolo grapes, enable the production of great structure and complexity. There were many arguments, right from antiquity, about the rights to the best casks and during the Risorgimento the Castle was already a winery of importance. With Moratti ownership, the company again reaffirms great attention to selection and quality.
